The Irish Veterans Historical Research Centre Ltd is a non-profit organisation, which exists for the purposes of establishing an Historical Research and Exhibition Centre, complete with a physical Memorial, located in the center of the island of Ireland and dedicated to all those Irish men and women who served in military and auxilliary forces outside of, though not excluding, the Permanent Defence Forces of the Republic of Ireland, since 1900.
The Veteran’s Memorial Project is a group, mostly of Veterans, who came together to look at ways of identifying and commemorating Irish men and women who served in foreign military and ancillary forces throughout the 20th century and to date. Those Irish men and women who served with other forces in World War I, World War II, Korea, and a host of other theaters have little or no recognition or identity. Amongst this vast number of men and women, the only two groups to have been officially commemorated by the State have been the 50,000 Irish killed in World War I serving in British Army regiments, and the Irish killed in Vietnam serving with the US and Australian forces.
Any Veteran, or family of a Veteran, who wishes to contribute memorabilia for historical research and possible display, should consult the instructions below. Please help us to honour those Irish men and women from the four provinces of Ireland who have served all over the world since 1900. These are some of the kinds of things that we are looking for:
Photographs, with clear identifying information on the reverse.
Important: Please record a number on the reverse of the photograph with a soft felt tip pen. Record the number on a separate piece of paper and include an explanation of the photograph with names and dates etc. Do not write on photographs with a ball point pen!
Please let us have as much information as possible on who or what each photograph depicts, for example; who took them, the circumstances in which they were taken, the dates or approximate dates on which they were taken, the fate of those pictured if known, and any other relevant information putting each picture in true context.
